HI THERE! You're receiving this because you’re a dear friend to me and I want to share a little about what I’m up to these days... or it’s because you signed up on my site. Either way, thanks for reading. If you'd like to quit getting these every so often, just click unsubscribe at the bottom. I’m really very good about that. —ARMISTEAD BOOKER

Summer in the City

THERE'S A CERTAIN ENERGY THAT BUZZES around New York City in the summertime. It's very different than the thrill of visiting Times Square for the first time, the magic of window shopping at Christmas, or the romance of the Brooklyn Bridge. It's a feeling that you have the freedom to accomplish just about anything and the exhilaration and potential of all the sunny days and cool nights stretching long before you like the shadows on the sidewalk.

I thought it was about time to revive my semi-regular emails and give you a taste for what's going on in my life. For one, I moved! So now I'm writing to you from my rooftop in Lower Manhattan, my new home in the sky. Anchored by the Hudson and East Rivers, this tiny neighborhood (called "Greenwich South" by the locals) sits between the Financial District and Battery Park City, and just below the World Trade construction. It's becoming a haven for young professionals who appreciate the rich history of the original Dutch and British colony and its quiet, narrow streets.

Some of you know my roommates, but I thought they deserved a more formal intro. Ron Whiteman is a dear friend from church who does brain research at Columbia (amazing stuff) and has a passion for soccer and G.I. Joe. Harvey Blumenstein is my new partner-in-crime and our resident jokester (also from my church), who does financial stuff at Citigroup and is crazy for the color orange... yup, he went to Clemson. Quality guys, both of them; I'm blessed to have them in my life.

This is the first of a series of little updates I hope to share with you over the summer. Short and sweet. Please give me feedback: if there's something you want to hear about in this email, I'll try to make it happen. And I'd love to hear from you... know that I have an open door for you here in Lower Manhattan!

Next time: By Day and By Night.

Cheers,
Armistead
